How to make a Windows PE CD

Go onto the internet and download the Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) as this contains the files we require to make the Windows PE CD.  Once downloaded go to Start-All Programs-Windows AIK-Windows PE Tools.

Once the command prompt opens type:

Copype.cmd x86 C:\WinPE_x86

If your architechure is AMD then replace x86 with amd64.

Next type:

Copy “C:\Program files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86\imagex.exe” C:\WinPE_x86\ISO

Again if your architechure is AMD then replace x86 with amd64.

Next open up Notepad and create a file called Wimscript.ini and save it to the new WinPE_x86\ISO location.  Within the file type;

[ExclusionList]

ntfs.log

hiberfil.sys

pagefile.sys

“System Volume Information”

RECYCLER

Windows\CSC

[CompressionExclusionList]

*.mp3

*.zip

*.cab

\Windows\inf\*.pnf

Save the file again.

Back in the Windows PE Tools Command Prompt type the following:

Oscdimg -n -bc:\WinPE_x86\etfsboot.com c:\WinPE_x86\ISO c:\WinPE_x86\WinPE_x86.ISO

Once completed you can then use software of your choice to burn the iso file to a CD.
