How to configure a Cisco switch with an ip address

ComTech: IT Support Stirling

Today I will continue the Cisco theme and show you how to configure a Cisco switch with an ip address.  For this tutorial you will have to connect to the switch using a console session.

Lets start.

Comtech1#configure terminal

Comtech1(config)#interface vlan 1

Comtech1(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.199 255.255.255.0

Comtech1(config-if)#no shutdown

Comtech1(config-if)#exit

Now we need to set the default gateway:

Comtech1(config)#ip default-gateway 192.168.1.1

Comtech(config)#exit

Don’t forget to save the configuration!!!

Comtech1#copy running-config startup-config
