VirtualBox inside VirtualBox is possible, I’ve done it, but it requires some tweaking for the machine configuration file inside VirtualMachine.

The Windows 7 was SP1 but ran poorly and froze often. I couldn’t even get it to even patch itself. When I installed IE 11 it seemed to patch enough to run perfectly. – Very reliable.

I set this up because I needed to sftp files off a Jumpbox I could only reach while VPNed to, and the VPN cut off all other network (so if I did it to the Server I’d lose RDP and control).

Comment on Is Android really that insecure? by Ian Thomson http://comtech247.net/2015/06/01/is-android-really-that-insecure/#comment-2465 Thu, 21 Jul 2016 09:13:43 +0000 http://comtech247.net/?p=5863#comment-2465 Hi Chris

I use Android for all my mobile items and have never felt the need for any extra antivirus software.
It is, as you say as secure as the person using it. Android also has a free app device manager that lets you locate your devices and remotely lock them or wipe them as well. I use this and can find any device easily.
I too like the freedom of the operating system and read just recently about an Apple IPhone weakness allowing people access. So again it’s down to the user. I would definitely recommend Android for the diversity of devices out there and the flexibility of the OS itself. Also less expensive most of the time for the hardware etc.

Great insight mate.

Comment on My little eeepc 701 lives!! by Derek http://comtech247.net/2013/01/06/my-little-eeepc-701-lives/#comment-2461 Sun, 19 Jun 2016 16:53:00 +0000 http://comtech247.net/?p=3851#comment-2461 Love Linux. Been a Linux user since ’93. Great on these small devices.

I just popped Ubuntu 16.04 on my 701 to bring it back to usable life :-) (Used the mini iso to boostrap it – loaded other packages as needed). Stuck 2GB in it that I had laying round too.

Great ultraportable for coding on. Have PostgreSQL and emacs loaded. Running Xfce. Even have OnePlay DVD player working (with a slimline external DVD player of course! )

Having an issue with recharging though. Not always showing the orange LED full on. Flashing, not charging. Seems to happen particularly after closing the lid to suspend.

Had to do the “remove-battery-and-PSU-hold-power-for-40s-reinsert-power-reboot-shutdown-reinstall-battery” trick several times to fix that.

Come across anything similar happening?

Regards

Derek.
