How to test your Broadband speed

Today I will show you how to test your broadband speed.  BT, Virgin and the other ISP’s will sell you packages of upto 20, 30, 40 Mb but they never tell you exactly how fast your connection will be.  For that you need Speedtest.

Speedtest.net allows you to retrieve a packet of data from your nearest server and then measures how long it takes to download it (download speed) and then sends the packet back on a return journey (upload speed).

You should do the test three times to get average download and upload speeds.  Also make sure when you do the tests that you are not downloading or uploading any files as this will skew the results.

Speedtest.net also allows you to rate your ISP.  This is good because there is no better feedback than that from customers so if you think that your ISP is good or bad then rate it.  Other people will thank you for it!!
