Windows setup did not find any hard disk drives in your computer

Came across this little issue yesterday when doing a Windows XP reinstall on an Acer Aspire one D150 netbook.  Set up went so far and then gave me the message;

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

Turns out that if you have a either a SATA, SCSI or Solid State drive then Windows XP does not come with the required drivers. But there is a way around it.  You need to go into the BIOS and change the SATA controller from AHCI to IDE.  This will allow Windows set up to complete the installation but remember to change the setting back to AHCI after you are finished.

  1. Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people consider worries that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

  2. I basically learned about a majority of this, but with that in mind, I still thought it had been useful. Fine task!

  3. Big lover of this website, a handful of your writes have definitely helped me out. Looking towards improvements!
