Today we will be having a go at joining a Linux Client to Active Directory. For this tutorial I will be using Linux Mint 10 and Windows Server 2008 Standard.
Ok, on your Linux client you are going to require a package called Likewise so open up a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install Likewise-open-gui
I have chosen to install the gui as in my experience most Windows Administrators prefer gui’s.
Next thing to do is to sort out DNS. You will need to enter the ip address of the Active Directory DNS server into the /etc/resolv.conf file. If there isn’t already a server providing DNS for Active Directory then the best way is to install the DNS role onto an existing domain controller. So open up a terminal and type:
sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf
and add the ip address as follows:
nameserver 192.168.1.100 (where 192.168.1.100 is the address of your windows DNS server).
Next thing we need to do is start Likewise. Enter your hostname and domain and then credentials of someone who is a member of the domain administrators group. And that should be it.
Just one other thing. Before you attempt to join the domain remember to prep it by adding the computer and user beforehand.

Sorry but I never had this error. Have you tried setting the primary DNS server on the domain as the DNS server for Mint before you run the program?

I tried this on Linux Mint 14 but keep getting the lsass error, any ideas please?
